Raynaud also shared some data about how LetsLunch is doing. The site has now scheduled 500 lunches and has more than 1,000 users. There are another 1,000 people on the waiting list. The service is limited to Silicon Valley right now, but Raynaud plans to expand to New York in April. And LetsLunch is planning to raise a $500,000 seed round through the AngelList service.

Remember that making the free-to-paid transition gracefully is just good business. Not only are these your longest-time customers, who have helped you in myriad ways (feedback, patience, content, etc.) but the impact of making this transition poorly can be disastrous and/or long-lasting, with negative PR, ruined relationships, and unpleasant employee morale issues.
Selling is never easy, even when you’re a big company. But when you’re a startup, it can get even harder. As a result, once you are in a sales cycle with a potential customer, chances are that your startup status is going to add a sizable amount of extra time that you should be prepared for.

I’ve watched Eric Ries’ blog grow from 5 subscribers to 60K+ subscribers in the span of two years which is great for the Lean Startup movement. And as with any fast growing movement, Lean Startup has picked up it’s share of evangelists, believers, fanatics, skeptics, atheists, and heretics. Unfortunately, these roles are primarily defined by levels of faith which is a problem.
