Over the last few years, I've heard business plans described as irrelevant, obsolete and a conspiracy by consultants and business schools to take advantage of inexperienced entrepreneurs with more dollars than sense. After all, who needs to write a 50-page term paper or build a complex financial model in Excel when a start-up like Twitter can launch a web site, command a billion-dollar valuation from top venture capitalists and figure out how it's going to make money after it gets funded?
